Creative Tidbits #195: Fabian Font, Design Not Adobe, the future of Design

by Fred Showker

Fred Showker's Creative tidbits

Creative tidbits is a column in DTG Magazine featuring creative inspiration There's a lot more to design than Photoshop or Illustrator. The other day I had a vendor want to post links in an article for the Design Center. I took a look and they links went to a graphic design training site. As I dug into their content I discover all their come-ons were false. One read "designing logos" -- but turned out to be a course on Photoshop and had nothing to do with design. Another promised web design, but turned out to be Photoshop again. The "school" was intentionally misleading. I declined the article. The sooner new designers discover it's not the software that makes the designer, they'll all be better off. That's why I really enjoyed seeing this week's topics!

Inkscape is an open-source vector graphics editor similar to Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Freehand, or Xara X. What sets Inkscape apart is its use of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an open XML-based W3C standard, as the native format.

Inkscape is free! By this, we mean it is free of cost, free to use and distribute, and open to peek into the source code. The Download page lists released builds as well as some developmental and source code links.
